"Hey, kid, I'll be back from New York in a couple of days, don't screw this one up..."

The record for most victories at a Santa Anita winter-spring meet is six, a milestone shared only by four thoroughbred. This afternoon, Fly To The Wire will aim for his 5th victory of the current stand as he faces eight others in the fifth, a $22,000 started allowance at 1/16th mile. Fly to the Wire, claimed for $20,000 by his current owner, has not lost since the day he was claimed.

In all of Fly to the Wire's victories Kent Desormeaux was aboard. But Desormeauz is now riding in New York, so apprentice Juan Ochoa will be aboard the 6-year old gelding today. Good luck Ochoa.
